Smith Mountain Morning Day, Washington Style!

Hello from the land of tall evergreens and gorgeous snow capped mountains!

Hello from 111 quilters having the time of their lives sewing up a storm and enjoying all manner of quiltyness!

I grabbed 42 of these wonderful women for a Smith Mountain  Morning workshop yesterday – setting up in the classroom space that is attached to the dining hall at Camp Arnold.

Needless to say, we spilled over and flowed into the dining hall as well – when it comes to quilters, we will expand to fill any space we are given, much like the properties of foam insulation.

But what a fun day!

They were ready, they were eager, and most of all ---they were here to have a good time!

Awesome blocks everywhere we turned!

Gorgeous vintage machines to drool over!

Friends to chat with while pressing out the world’s problems!

Even a service dog in training gets to share in the love and fun!

This is Prince, he is 5 months old and oh so sweet!

So is his trainer/owner!  Kisses and more kisses!

What an amazing class day!  Look at these blocks!

Great job, ladies!

You rocked it!

I’ve caught more of our fun day in a slide show for you to enjoy!

Smith Mountain Morning, Quilter's Dream Retreat WA 2015

Oh yes, and Christina's great video of us doing a conga line through the main retreat gym with our blocks --our ultimate mission?  To make a pass by the treat table for more sustenance! HA!

And our day didn’t stop here!  Class was over at 4 and several of us took to the pavement to get some steps and a leg stretch in, walking through beautiful Camp Arnold surroundings!

You just can’t help but be amazed at beautiful Mt Rainier!

Wave hello, girls!

Wait, I need to be in here too!  HA!

Enjoying more PJ fun at dinner time!

Today we’ve got two half day classes – Playing with Jacks in the morning, and Scrappy Trips this afternoon!

As always there are more photos than I dare to post because the internet is slower than slow – ship slow!  I’ll be posting more pics from retreat over the next several days when I get back to civilization and faster Wi-Fi!  Isn’t it amazing what we take for granted and require as our “normal” in our daily routines!

Hey, I’m grateful for what I CAN post, even if it takes 2 hours or more to upload!

Have a wonderful Saturday, everyone!

  1. Thank you for taking the time to post. Those are wonderful blocks. So many variations! And that mouse!!! I want one!!! I always smile seeing the grins on the faces of the retreaters. They always look like they are having the time of their lives. And they are!!! And love the service dog. What a sweetie. This was fun to see this morning.

  2. Loved all the pictures and beautiful blocks! Mount Rainier is majestic. I lived in Tacoma, Wash. for 2 1/2 years while my husband was in the USAF, 1971-1973. A lot of beautiful sites there. Loved "the conga" video!!

  4. I see some blocks for a Smokey Mountain Christmas Quilt. Thanks for making us a part of the fun even though we are far away on the other side of the State or Country. I saw a few sets of the Target PJ's. Mine still need to be hemmed. Were yours too long, or am I just short on one end?

  5. So much fun! What you forgot to say about these pj's is how crazy cozy they are and that for those of us who are a bit taller....they are actually long enough!! Double bonus!!
