West Union, Iowa & Kiss in the Corner!

20150801_105414
Little pieces, precious patches, swapping strips and squares with new found friends and having a wonderful time down in West Union, Iowa!  That is what retreat is all about!

This adorable little town was founded in the 1840s.  Many of the buildings in the downtown area around the courthouse square boast the year of their building right there on their fascades.  It was a booming time in America’s heartland when immigrants were finding their way to the central states in America, willing to work and farm and earn their own piece of the promised land.

As quilters, this little retreat center holds a lot of promise for us as well!

Approximately 20 miles from where I was previously in Oelwein –we are set up here at Moonlight Stitching Studio and Sisters Retreat Center!

Kiss in the Corner came back out to play for the second time this week.

SO much scrappy goodness!

I just love working with this scale of block, and it was fun to share my love of little pieces with those who had come from far and wide.

And while it looks complicated, this quilt is made from simple shoo-fly blocks and pieced sashings….with a little Kiss in the Corner!

Cutting, Pressing, Chatting all the while!

Kiss in the Corner, West Union, IA 2015

Last night Irene and I drove over to St Lucas for dinner, and enjoyed the most lovely drive on winding roads through Iowa corn and bean fields….SO beautiful!

But we rounded a corner to find:

MINIONS!!  Hahaha!

Someone had gone all out with their “Iowa Farm Art” and these were on an upper berm along a field.  Early decorating for THIS Halloween?  or left from last year?

It will stop you in your tracks!

  2. This one has my eyes fooled! The kiss in the corner looks like the main block. What fun to swap and make it more scrappy! Have a great flight to Denver. Drink lots of water so you don't get altitude sickness.
