The Long Drive Home!

I stayed the night in Amish Country, Delaware!

About a week before I left for Maryland my friend Marti from Delaware emailed and said….”I’ll be seeing you in Jamestown, NY in June..do you want me to deliver cases of books for you so you don’t have to ship them ahead?”

I said..YES!

I had to drive past Delaware on my way to/from New Jersey and it was a no brainer just to leave New Jersey at the end of my workshop and drive to Delaware for a home prepared meal, some great evening visiting, a comfy bed, and an early start the next morning.

There are boxes of books now waiting in Marti’s long arm studio  and I’ll meet her in New York to retrieve them.

This sweet Amish buggy was clip clopping down the road as I made my way from Marti’s house toward route 301 that would take me “the slow back way” through Maryland and Virginia, bypassing the Washington DC area all together.

That was a no brainer also.  It was a beautiful morning for a drive, and I had no curfew and wanted to take this day as leisurely as possible.

I had lunch and a bit of a wander in Richmond, and made it home through RAIN by 8pm last night –by the time I unpacked the car it was nearly 9pm.  Just too late to sit and write a blog post, but you can bet that I dug right into the boxes that were waiting for me:

Garden Party is back from Quiltmaker Magazine!

I’m so happy to have this bit of colorful happiness home.  This is the quilt we are doing for the Vegas Retreat with Debbie Caffrey and Charlotte Angotti in August!  If you are retreating with me there, pick up a copy of the magazine, you’ll need the pattern!  Your class supply list with some pre-cutting is on the way, but you won’t need to do any sewing until retreat starts because I have some speedy tips and streamlined helps..besides…we may want to do some sharing and swapping of strips!

If you are cruising with me in October, this is also our project!  Be watching for that class supply and pre-cutting list to come soon too!

You’ll find the pattern in the May/June issue of Quiltmaker Magazine….it’s on the cover, you can’t miss it!

This is going to be a ton of fun!

Oooh, some big hunks and chunks too!

Good thing..I’ll pull the blues and add them to this stack:

Another stack of “Nearly Vintage” blue!

Remember that quilt I was doing with the blue piano key border?  I was going to be lazy and just use one piece of yardage for the backing, but I really want this stack to have a purpose…so today  ((Today and tomorrow are my WEEKEND!  I leave again on Sunday)) I will be piecing a back and hope to get this loaded in the long arm for some quilting.

I can show you the back, I showed you the border..I just can’t show you the whole top yet, but just wait – it’s going to be good!

I’m thinking of some Quilt-Cam time tomorrow evening..I hope that will work for you!  Join me here on the blog on Fri, Apr 17th at 9pm EST.  Maybe I’ll have a back to show you by then.

Question is…do I throw in some orphan blocks too?

Oh the wheels are turning..it’s studio time!

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

  6. Oh, definitely throw in some orphan blocks. I love your pieced quilt backings. I will enjoy catching up on Quilt Cam as time differences mean I can't watch it live.

  10. Garden Party is my favorite quilt now. I am cutting 1,5 inch strips and plan to sew the blocks this spring and put it together before next mystery. I do not have the pattern, but I think I will find an easy way to sew the blocks.I have learned so much from you by doing your mysteries in 2013 and 2014 that I am better at "reading" quilts.Thank you Bonnie.
