A Sunny Blue Ridge Mountain Saturday!

20150117_082902
It may be cold cold cold out, but blue sky and sunshine prevail!

Every time I come up here I am once again reminded why I love it so much, and how this small corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains fills my soul.

I feel rejuvenated with the simple routine of waking up, stepping out onto the front porch and greeting the morning with a deep inhale and a smile.

I love this place!

And I am so excited to be sharing my love of this place with two dear friends who will be here ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!

There is lots to do to prepare.  I want everything to be just right!

ALL of the doors are now in!

This is the lower level, and instead of bringing machines in the cabin, and down the spiral stairs to the basement sewing area, everything was brought around to these doors….my first chance to see them IN!

I brought my accuquilt studio!

It’s on a 6 ft folding table that I put up on risers…slid it against the window. On risers the table is tall enough slide right over the treadle machine cabinet.  I plan on having a cutting and kitting up weekend while here, so this gizmo will be busy busy busy.  I brought loads of scraps and fat quarters to process down – along with my 1.5” 2”, and 2.5” strip dies.  My strip bins are really low on variety, so it is time to add a bunch more!

How are we going to set this space up?

I think this will do it!

I will be on the 2 tone 301 short bed, Randy will have the mocha 301 long bed, and Lori will be at the Bernina Activa 145!  Loads of space!  I’m also setting up a second cutting area with a 4 foot folding table raised up to cutting height.

What’s going on here?

It’s almost time for the 2015 APQ Quilt Along!

This year the theme is 4 patches!  Since 4 patches are my favorite unit of all time, of course I’m happy to join in!  Be watching for the April 2015 issue for more details on how to participate:

It’s ALL about the 4 patches!  In the mean time, I’ll be making mine on the side of everything else….trying to get a head start!

Have a terrific weekend, everyone!

Pooh, love those doors! My daughter had one on her house in San Antonio years ago, and it seemed such a "Texas" thing. But really, they fit in anywhere. Mind sharing the name of the company that made them, or where you for them?

  7. Oh, Bonnie I love the doors! Of course, since they are Texas stars! I see you brought out the Bernina. I love my 145! It is the only modern machine I have. I am currently piecing the Grand Illusion on a 1950 99k. I switch up and use all my vintage machines,301, 404, 503, FW, and the Bernina. Thank you for all do!

  8. Love your mountain place. Lived in the Great Smoky Mountains near Cullwhee, NC for some 25 years. Retired in 2007 and returned home to southern AZ, about can hour south and west of Tucson. So I also enjoyed reading about your recent trip to our desert southwest.

  9. Such a beautiful place. No wonder it feeds your soul that way. I bet Sadie knows how happy your special place makes you and that's why she is always so excited to go there. I imagine she really enjoyed her walk with Mom this morning in the cold air. Have a wonderful time with your friends! I read both their blogs so I know they are excited as well. Thanks for all you do for us. I'm glad you are having some fun time with friends.

    Good morning...
What a view, but what great sewing machines. 301s are one of my favorites... I take mine to class whenever possible. So what treadle is at the cabin or do you have more than one there? I've got three up and running at our cabin with a couple in process. When the power goes out it's wonderful but even on a calm quiet woodsy day the sound of a working treadle is beyond words. Have a great retreat K
