Day #4, Part 2: Scrappy Trips in the Afternoon!

PigeonForge_Mar2014 332Check out these Quilt Block Pin-up Girls!

And get a load of our Grape Delight featherweight!

Whoowhooooo!

I met with a new group of quilters after our quick lunch break yesterday ---

Our afternoon was spent sewing strip sets for whacky scrappy trips blocks….and these girls were RUTHLESS!

There was no fabric found deemed too ugly to sew up ---no matchy matchy allowed!  ANYTHING goes, sew it up!

But Oooooohhhhhhh!!
((Pardon the heart palpitations and the drool!))

SO MUCH FUN in 3 hours!

We all agreed that we wanted to keep sewing.  The time passed so quickly, and I hope to be seeing some of these ladies again soon at various venues in the south while I travel.

Scrappy Trips, Pigeon Forge TN 2014

The pattern for Scrappy Trips, is of course, found under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog --

I am OFFICIALLY done here at Mountain Quilt Fest.  Today's Jared Takes a Wife class wound up at 4pm.  The van is packed.  I have one more night here, and home I go in the morning.

I've had a great time getting to know the other teacher on this year's staff: Marsha McCloskey who joined me on lunch-time walks for a leg stretch and a bit of sunshine while we chatted endlessly about our quilting passion, Jan Krenz with her ever ready smile, Eleanor Burns and Sue Bouchard who I was in Ireland with last June -- great to see them again!  Jo Morton who I hadn't seen since last March in Portland, Hollis Chatelain, who only lives a bit over an hour away from me in North Carolina, and we were wondering why we had never crossed paths before!  Klaudeen Hansen, Bonnie Goolsby and Cindy Blackberg, who's beautiful handwork I love, and Kay England who is an absolute riot to be around.

Thanks for the fun behind the scenes, ladies! I hope our paths cross again!

  1. I would have had a VERY hard time picking classes--what a great line up of teachers! I have your books, Marsha's, and Jo's and Cindy's stamps and patterns! Wish I could have been there! Have a safe trip home!

    Hi Bonnie

I'm emailing from Auckland, NZ. How big are the little squares (finished) within each block for the Trip Around the World Blocks?

Mum and I are trying to work it out...and thanks for the blog. It's a recent discovery for me and I'm learning a lot and enjoying your enthusiasm!

    Thanks

  4. Bonnie, A lady from Chicago came to the Quilting Pantry today. She went with you to Ireland last year. She found me from the wonderful post you did for me while here in London, KY.
She is planning to post pics to your new site about her trip today. Thanks again. Paula in KY

  11. So many of those names are familiar from years ago when there used to be a large quilt show in Indianopolis called Quilt America! Took classes from Kaye, Marsha and Hollis was always involved. (just don't tell them they are in my UFO pile! Really in a drawer and I am working on emptying drawers-so will get to them soon, I hope!) Of course, scrappy trips is waiting for me to finish it also-probably this summer! Never made it into a drawer-that is no longer allowed-must finish the tops now-no more storing UFO's-my new-ish resolution to the number that I have! :)
