Give-Away! An Elm Creek Quilts Companion!

Oh, how many of us love the Elm Creek Quilts series by New York Times bestselling author, Jennifer Chiaverini!

I remember an evening a bit over a year ago when teaching for Quiltmaker Magazine at their Block Party in Williamsburg, VA, how star struck I was to be speaking at the same function as Jennifer!  I have loved her books from the very first one!

I was contacted a bit over a week ago by the publicity department at Plume/Penguin books asking if I’d like to review a copy myself – and offer up a give-away to blog readers –how could I say no?!  YES, of course YES!

The book is due out in November and will be found in book stores near you then – but we have an EARLY copy!

  6. A companion is a great idea for a series written over several years! I'm sure it will do well with such a popular series. I was on the listserv Quiltnet when Jennifer ecstatically posted that a publisher had offered her a contract for the first book. I've been reading them since.

  7. It is wonderful there is to be a new Elm Creek book published and it sure sounds like it is going to be very interesting. I will have to put my order in now. Thank you for alerting me Bonnie. I love all the Elm Creek stories but my absolute favourite is 'The Sugar Camp Quilt'. I have to say I enjoyed all of the novels with a historical background as it enabled me to better understand American history in a fun way.

  26. I thought yesterday, "I need to check this writer out"!
I'm afraid I haven't yet read any of her books. In fact I only heard about her yesterday when another quilting blogger (who appears to be something of an Elm Creek addict) wrote about the quirks of the Dutch translation of the latest novel. Perhaps this book is the place to start. In any case it's wonderful to read everyone's comments and recommendations here. Thank you all, especially Bonnie for making this possible.

I love the Elm Creek books and have read all of them. Sylvia is my favorite character as I admire her strength. I loved the series from the first book on. I often wish there really was an Elm Creek Quilt Camp! Bonnie, I live up the road in Lansing right on the North Fork of the New River from your new cabin in Wilkes. It would delightful having a quilt camp you could visit regularly near us here in the mountains. I would love to win the Companion book but whether I do or not, I will definitely have to have a copy of it. Thanks, Bonnie!

  55. Have most of them from Audible and they are my "go-to" books when I find myself with an afternoon of machine piecing. Nothing better than them to get through a
"leaders and enders" (continuous piecing) project.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I loved 'The Aloha Quilt' and could really relate as I also became fascinated with Hawaiian style quilts and echo quilting during a vacation in the islands some years ago. I'm currently reading 'The Union Quilters' which is filled with fascinating details of Civil War battles and daily life. As usual, the book highlights the strengths of women. I'd love to win Jennifer Chiaverini's new book - the quilt blocks look amazing and I could meet characters from all her books! (harrison.shari@gmail.com)

  57. I have read Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker but have yet to read one quilting themed book. I need to delve in more deeply and winning this book would help with background.

  59. My first foray into quilting, was a tentative visit into a local quilt shop about 25 years ago. Not having a mentor or family member that quilted, I needed teachers, a class, guidance anything! I was met with impatience and condescension. Disheartened, I interpreted that as the realm of all quilters and never went back, until the death of a high school classmate about 3 1/2 years ago sent me to a local non-profit that made quilts for the hurting. The tenderness, patience, warmth and talent of the ladies there opened the heart of quilting to me. Jennifer's Elm Creek Quilt series embodies that spirit. My only regret is that I didn't run across these kinds of books sooner. Well, better late than never!

  60. Yikes, miss a day on the block and almost miss the giveaway!! My favorite 'character' has to be the manor itself! I adore old homes and the idea of preserving one and bringing life back to it is wonderful! Then the added lilac surrounding private garden!! My dream come true! Then throw in quilt camp, oh yea I am there!!!

  67. I love all the books and the community but one of my favorites was the Sugar Camp Quilt. The idea of linking quilting to actively helping the underground railroad and the story associated with that and Sylvia's family (maybe that was the book after) was awesome!. The character I like the most is Silvia. I love her no nonsense attitude and warmth and compassion for folks. I wish that I could be more like that and I like that she has grown and learned throughout the years. Great book series - though I wish the more recent ones had a little more depth as some of the original ones (jplabby98@gmail.com)
