However, Nashville is on the RIGHT SIDE!
What’s not to like about Nashville, TN in the spring?
Three workshops and a Lecture/Trunk Show!
Time to explore and find antique malls and quilt shops?
Reconnect with some ladies I haven’t seen in several years!
The only thing dragging me down is that my flight is wheels up at 6:53AM this morning ---so you guessed it – this post is being written ahead so I don’t have to deal with it when the alarm goes off at 4am.
Some sewing did get accomplished on a very quiet Easter Afternoon ---
I sewed a spring green binding on a very pink Atlas machine, circa 1958!
Doesn’t this shout SPRING to you?
Bright green binding on an indigo blue border? You bet!
I can’t show you the whole project because there are magazine and book plans for this one in the future –but I’ve been working with these colors for the past 6 months or so, building this quilt as leaders and enders while working on everything else as always – just working here and there a bit at a time. This is a project that has packed easily in my suitcase. Up until now!
I have a “generic” walking foot on the pink Atlas machine….and needing a 1/4” binding and finding the foot too wide to use the edge of the foot as my guide, I screwed on another little vintage goodie that came in a random box of machine feet – it’s a curved seam guide that drops down in FRONT of the foot so I can set it where I need to go!
I've found sometimes when putting on a binding that the sticky guide is not high enough to use as a fence when the quilt is thicker than the guide. I still like the sticky guide for every day all purpose piecing..but for binding and using a walking foot, this is my alternative!
Loving the 1940’s looking backing fabric!
Guess what finally showed up on my doorstep? The latest Quiltmaker May/June issue with Wild & Goosey & Part II of the Lazy Sunday Mystery in it!!
Do you see a similarity between the colors on the cover – and the snips of my quilt above?
Sometimes –the color goddesses are in synch!
Let’s have a Give-Away!
Tell me what color combos you are working with right now!
I’ll be home Friday and we will draw a winner for one copy of Quiltmaker Magazine's May/June issue on Friday Evening ---
Catch you from Nashville!
My all time favorite combo is purple and green! My current projects include a wide array of combinations. My UFO challenge project for guild is a blue and brown Civil War sampler. For Project Linus this month I'm working on a kid's quilt with bright blue, green, purple and yellow. I've also been cutting strips for a springy, scrappy pastel baby quilt, blue, pink, lavender, yellow and green, with white on white for the background.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a quilt for my oldest son, Jason - who's birthday is today - so April Fool's - his birthday gift will probably be a week late - but I'm working on a lap quilt with batiks in blues, brows and tans all on a cream muslin background - it's really looking sharp and I know he will love it!
ReplyDeleteAn olive green (with multi-colored tiny dots & dashes of color) and a pale beige (with an almost-invisible swirly floral design). They are in a disappearing 4-Patch that is one of my leader/ender efforts. The other L/E is my first paper foundation (old phone book pages) string quilt
ReplyDeletePeachy Orange, Dark Purple and Greens plus Cream colors in a mini appliqued pot of flowers quilt for my quilt guild's auction coming up the middle of April.
ReplyDeleteLet's see, what am I not working with? I have been taking a color and design class at my LQS. It's been fun and definitely challenging for this retired (and anal) banker. Currently, I have a small stack of blue, yellow green, orange and red violet just waiting to be cut up for a small wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteModern Quilt Guild Fort Worth Texas had a draw a paint chip challenge and I got organge...so I'm working on orange/white/green/and others colors to be determined.

My colors of the day are browns and reds, but who knows what tomorrows colors will be? Maybe blues and greens.
ReplyDeleteI have two in the works. The first is sherbet, springy batiks, and the second is in rusty reds, greens, and maybe some purple mixed in.
ReplyDeleteTeal, Purple and gold...a variation of a Cathedral Window technique. It is turning out to be a very "elegant" piece.
ReplyDeleteHot pink, lime green, yellow, blue and orange ... brights. They're outside my comfort zone, but it's a quilt for my oldest granddaughter ... and I'm finding that I'm enjoying this even more than I thought I would.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a 625 block 4 patch quilt and I am using all colors of 1800's reproduction fabrics to get a scrappy mix and no two patches alike.
ReplyDeleteAm Working on a scrap project at the moment and plan to use every color of the rainbow but my current block in progress is red cream & blue.
ReplyDeleteToday I hope to get the borders on Easy Street - either tan and green or brown and green (green, blue, maroon, brown and creams), fix the final border on Pineapple blossom in purple and then maybe play with some greens.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a large (queen or king - we'll see how it goes) quilt that I have been calling the Perplexing Purple Pineapple Patch. The purple pineapples have orange centers and orange & yellow geese will be flying around as the border. It's for my sister. Shhhh..don't tell her. :)
ReplyDeleteI bought a yard of each of the 2 pezzy prints, then matched up with 12 solids, then made a pezzy brick quilt. I just finished cutting out the pieces for another quilt using the same prints and solids - I still have over 1/4 yard left of each color - think I will stash those and save for another day of inspiration. Now I can dig into my grey and lime - cannot wait.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a "Grandmother's Flower Garden" in those thirties pastels that always remind me of the paint used on Gulf beach houses. I've purchased a medium "grass" green to do those tiny diamonds and triangles to join my "flowers," but it's tempting to switch that to a medium teal green - like the waters in the Gulf just before a storm.
ReplyDeleteI am currently working with a fat quarter bundle of prints and solids in mustard, green, teal, blue and gray. I have added white as my constant "neutral". It's my first time sewing half square triangles so, of course, I have gone with the "go big or go home" philosophy and am using only 2" half square triangles! Thank you for the opportunity win a magazine Bonnie. Have a great trip!
ReplyDeletekaren(dot)patriquin(at)gmail(dot)com
The quilt I am binding is scrappy greens, browns and beiges. The quilt I have under my BSR quilting now is scrappy burgundy, purple and cream. The quilt I am piecing is scrappy blues, scrappy greens, scrappy browns and scrappy yellows.
ReplyDeleteHmm, which quilt to choose? My leader ender project is creams and purple. There is a new one cut out in white, grey and blues. The paper piecing on is in brights. The rest are either in the binding/labeling stage or ready to go on the frame. I may need to sneak in a baby quilt over the weekend too. Shower next week.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!
My great grand wants a pink and purple quilt
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a shirting top with a chocolate brown print flannel for the backing. And I've got white and 1930's type prints I was using as leader/enders on the design wall.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Nashville, though I've been to Jackson, TN, which is just west on I40 many times.

ReplyDeleteWorking on moth in the window blocks with blues and subtle yet funky pastel colors from deboned shirts. Having fun with pattern and combos for blocks!
ReplyDeleteToday I'm putting a pale green/blue binding on a multi-colored quilt. It probably sounds awful but it works. Thanks for offering the magazine as a giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt I'm working on now is red, green and white. Could be Christmas-y, or not. My usual colors are bright, loud, busy, so this is a lovely rest for the eyes :-)
ReplyDeleteChristmas reds and greens with a neutral background as I've been working on my Tina Curran class Christmas wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteWhich project do you want the colors for? LOL. The modern multicolor brights? the civil war reds, greens and blues sampler ? the forties blues and green and creams propeller blocks? or the vibrant greens and yellow e-reader carrier? Hmmmm, I just can't make up my mind!
ReplyDeleteI am working on Jamestown Landing with blues and neutrals.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a purple quilt( various shades) and another that is blue gold with a splash of pinky red thrown in for good measure. I love Trisha Yearwood's music- Have a grand time in Nashville..

ReplyDeleteright now I'm sewing the binding on a bright pink babyquilt for a lovely little lady, born in March. Not my colors - but right for her!
Just finishing a spring banner with red tulips and bright yellow daffodils. Hoping to see some of that spring color soon instead of these wretched snowflakes!

ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I'm preferring to work with all easter/pastel colours for spring...refreshing!
ReplyDeleteI am working with a new pattern in green scraps and yellows! Can we say SPRING?!?!?!? LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway Bonnie. Currently working with 'natural' colors - greens, rust, brown... and navy. Wedding gift for my niece. Travel safe!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a cut up four patch in greens and yellows. The greens are mainly greens all shades, but the yellows are from yellow to orange to gold to brown. I got the pattern from one of your commenters in the UK. There is always inspiration on your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteLove that navy and lime. Just finished a scrappy all-lime top with a rainbow border and am now cutting up a winding wayz quilt with alternating grey solid and scrappy pastels in grey-yellow, grey-pink and grey-turquoise. I also have an all random scrappy string quilt in process with all the leftovers from the last two years.
ReplyDeleteI a working on a quilt using fall colors burnt orange, olive green, brown, gold, & ecru.
ReplyDeleteRIGHT NOW, I'm stitching the brown binding down on the Roll Roll Cotton Boll quilt....from blocks donated by students from your Baytown Area Quilt Guild sponsored workshop last month. So let's add some neutral strings, and pink, red, brown & green blocks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration.
I have been working on a scrap quilt that is for a auction. Sashing is blue and has gold side and corner triangles. Also working on my Lazy Sunday, toned down the colors for a more pastel look and used yellow for all of the lights.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on Hexies in white, yellow for the center, green & and rusty-orange. These are the first hexies I have done and although the first few were very awkward to do, I am finally getting the hang of it. I don't like thimbles of any kind but I sure need one for the hexies.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a cut up four patch in greens and yellows--very scrappy. The greens are all shades of greens and the yellows run from yellow to orange to gold to brown. No one fabric used in more than one block. I got the pattern from one of commenters from the UK. There is always inspiration on your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get my hands on this issue of Quiltmaker!! Been working with dark and medium greens and a beautiful hummingbird print. Made a lap quilt for my mom that has been tucked away since 2007. As a new quilter I was afraid to cut into that beautiful fabric, but I decided it was going to be my retreat project. Feels so good to have a UFO almost finished! :o)
ReplyDeletePink, Orange and purple with white background, oh, and yellow! I'm really working with colours that are normally outside my comfort zone and I'm having a great time! Margo in Victoria BC Canada.
ReplyDeleteRight now - all colors. I'm working on an art quilt with a geisha, a path, and cherry blossoms. Of course, by the time I'm finished that may all change. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBlue abd yellow - while babysitting with grsnds ladt week I spied some vintage didh towels from ddl's 80+ year old grabdmother. They are well worn and had been used as cleaning rsgs. The embroidery is syill in good shape....I "stole" them. The embroideries are now the center on 14 inch pillows in blue, yellow and white fabrics. They will look great in sunroom.
ReplyDeleteRight now I am finishing hand quilting a scrappy appliqué quilt in warm tones of reds and greens and golds. Can't wait to see this completed and put to use.
ReplyDeleteStarting a"big girl" quilt for my granddaughter. Lime green butterfly print with pink and burgundy sashing, and a rainbow of dotted fabrics to frame the butterflies.
ReplyDeleteCarole in San Antonio
I currently have two different projects in progress. One is Miss Rosie's Toulouse that uses reds, greens and white. Both the reds and greens are scrappy, so I get to use up a lot of the strips I have in my stash! The other is Sister's Choice and that one uses all sorts of colors along with neutrals for the background and dark greens for the star points. I've been working on this one for a while and my sister-in-law just gave me some of her leftovers that I'm going to include in the rest of the 9 patches. It will be great to show her what her "scraps" have turned into!
ReplyDeleteNo combos or colors... too busy with kids. :P I've been itching to do something bright and black though.
ReplyDeletePink and brown - making a new Jo Morton Little Women's Club quilt. It is a four patch. I love pink and brown quilts but have never made one before.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a quilt in multiple shades and tones of browns and neutrals. I am also working on one in bright primary colors and neutrals with a lavender border.
ReplyDeleteRight this second I'm working on 4 different things: Boom swap (colors really vary), repair job (scrappy), quilting job (scrappy with a lot of blue), and Easy street in the colors you posted originally. As soon as I get the two jobs out of the way I have plans to put together a couple quilts for my nieces, one pink, one purple, and blue, purple and pink :)
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that! Recommendation: Go to your favorite quilt store. Sign up for a class, preferably a project that can be completed or nearly completed during the class, such as a table runner or wall hanging. Paying for the class will be motivation to get fabric ready, machine, etc. Then at the class, you'll be reminded how much fun quilting is! You'll also connect with other quilters who will motivate you! Worked for me!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a hexagon quilt in 1930's fabrics in all sorts of colours.
ReplyDeleteHave a good time there!!
I'm spending a lot of time looking at the brown/pink/turquoise/gold/lime green blocks in the king-sized quilt I'm hand quilting for my daughter and son-in-law as well as blues and neutrals as I assemble "playing with jacks" blocks for another gift. Would love to win the magazine. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI am making onw of my grandatughters one of your patterns in Purple and Green. Zuckerwatte from Sting Fling. She is my purple girl , I have another grandgirl who is the pink girl. Poor Purple Girl hasn't had a new quilt in a while so it was her turn... ReplyDeleteHI Bonnie
ReplyDeleteThank you for this opportunity. Your pink and green combo in this post seemed very springy!!
I am working on a red/white quilt right now - mostly HST's. My hexie project is a charm quilt, everything/anything goes with Kona "snow" as a place for the eye to rest. I have been trying so hard to keep this to ONE of each, but I found two duplicates last night. At least they are on an edge and easy to correct at this point. It is going to be a king size creation. The hexes are 1 and 1/4 per side. I am sure when I have the whole thing completed, I will find two of the same - right next to each other - oh well - that will add to the "charm" :)
The last bee block was in red and white. I love your navy and green.
ReplyDeleteI'm in between big projects. For right now I'm hand quilting a multi-colored string quilt that has a beautiful light lavender square with the string blocks.

ReplyDeleteI'm making a college graduation quilt for my niece, whose school colors are red, white and blue. Her school is in Washington, DC and I miraculously found a M'Liss "On the Road with M'Liss" fabric that is primarily aqua, pink (the cherry blossom trees) and green with all of the DC landmarks and US Flags on it. I know that's a lot of colors already, but there's also gray (Washington Monument) and brown (tree branches). So, this quilt will have coordinating fabrics that include all of these colors. Here's hoping that it turns out pretty.
ReplyDeleteWorking on orange and black - team colors- for a utility quilt to watch lacrosse games. Only a grandmother would do such things and love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a mystery quilt our guild chapter is doing. I finally am using some of my yummy batiks I bought over the years for my stash. My focal is a dark blue background with a floral pattern (maybe 15% in lots of nice bright colors). It's so fun to work with a gold/pink/orange, fuschia (sp?), turquoise, water blue, pale blue. It makes me happy even trimming flying geese to size to play with them.
