iPhone-o-gram! The Road to Boone!

We are enjoying a two-hour drive to the mountains of western North Carolina.

It was 45° at home – it's 32° here and snowing!

The plan is to start looking at properties in the hopes of finding a little weekend getaway type place. Something small and quaint – something we can pay off by the time we retire.

Of course on the agenda is enough sleeping quarters for girlfriends to come in and sew for long weekends.

I'm sure this'll be the first of many such hunting trips – but I can already imagine a wonderful cozy place with room to sew!

I brought the traveling Hexie's with me – though not as much stitching is getting done as I thought I would do – my eyes are on the beautiful scenery, the bare trees along the road, the ever-changing landscape, and the softly falling snow.

  6. Gee, Bonnie, I think where you live now is so perfect. I wonder why you would move. Retirement does not mean you have to move. I've had so many friends do that at retirement, and ended up regretting it.

  7. If you go over the other side of the mountains to Tennessee, you might find something there as well, unless you particularly want to stay on the south side in NC.

  11. To help you find a place, I would like to recommend my friend Evelyn Bridges who is a Realtor in Brevard, NC. Her phone number is 828-884-7020 or 828-778-8513. I would love to meet you there and sew up a storm!

  13. We did exactly that. Found some vacant land and purchased it. Wound up NOT building after we couldn't find a builder with the same vision as us at the same price point. Because of the "tanking" market we found a short sale home that was much more house than we would have been able to afford normally. We paid cash for the house and spent a couple of years repairing it (it had been abused by the prior owners) and within the last few months both the DH and I have retired and relocated to the new place. HEAVEN!!! You will KNOW it's the right place when you find it ... you just know it! Happy hunting!!

  14. A weekend getaway place sounds wonderful! No more than 2 hrs. away will assure that you will use it a lot, too. You said snow? I was out enjoying our 70 degree sunny weather today here in Las Vegas, NV. We are retired and live two miles from the Mt. Charleston turnoff, so we go up there when we get lonesome for snow. Had a great snowball fight with our grandchildren last month! (Yes, I know you all are thinking it will be over 100 degrees soon--we went to high school here and we're used to it. Some family members have lived here 50 yrs.)

  15. Are you intending to hold small retreats in your week end house. Can I be one of your sewing friends when I come and visit your country. Would love to spend a week end with quilting friends and maybe do some stitching.

  16. Next time you go, be sure to find Winkler Creek Road and, off of it, Rocky Creek Road. My late husband and I bought a little home on Rocky Creek when he was in grad school at ASU in the '70's. It's the remotest "close to town" place I've ever lived in and the trout stream that ran through our front yard fed us many a night! Great neighbors, mostly from Florida back then, in summer. In winter, we owned the whole long road nearly! Doesn't seem to have changed much last time I drove in there.
Lots of houses way back but don't know if any are for sale.
