Feb 26 Quilt Cam!

Two more days of February?? How can that be?!?

This month has flown by ---as they all do.

But I have a question --- WHY is February the shortest month of the year?  Who decided all of that?  Why do some months have more days than others anyway, wouldn’t it be nice if they were all even? LOL

Okay, I know someone is going to comment on why things are what they are, and I accept that they are what they are but February is just SHORT SHEETED and that is all there is to it!

This little photo came from Gail who writes:

Linda Frantz has Monkey, and I have Blue.  I’m allergic to fur, so this is my sewing companion….(We would have several cats and dogs if only I could be around fur but I make up for it in fabric enhancements….)
Cute cute cute!

If you were around last Sunday for Quilt Cam, you will remember that I am re-making a new sample of my Sister’s Choice Quilt.  42 blocks this time set 6 X 7.

quiltcam 007

I’ve spent some time today ironing the strip sets that I sewed on Sunday – and cutting them into 4 2.5” sections . (the leftover you see on the right end is for squaring and trimming)  All the sets have been matched with their one extra square that will be the 4th corner of the 9 patch.

This is how things get laid out and counted at my house:

All along the long arm take up rail!

I’m feeling the need for some treadling tonight, so this is where you will find me assembling these puppies.  I have ONE assembled….41 to go! How many can I get done in about 90 minutes? Let’s see!

Come bring a project and sew along!

(PS – if you are reading this and have NOT VOTED in the Golden Quilter Awards….and you enjoy what you find here on the blog and website and appreciate the time I give it – please VOTE!  I am running a close second in a couple categories and I really need you.  Your vote DOES matter!  Voting ends Feb 28th.  DO IT TONIGHT! )

  3. I'm ready for Quilt Cam tonight! I'm putting the finishing touches on my Bedford Beauty quilt - which is what I am calling the quilt I started at your "Jared Takes a Wife" workshop. I don't have a long arm quilter so I made the blocks quilt-as-you-go and all I have to do is sew the rows together and then bind. I'm using Lucy, my grandmother's old Singer to get this finished. Let's Sew!!

  7. Hi Bonnie , I have decided to do some mindless binding as I watch with you tonight . I was going to make 9 -patches with you but I've had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong or is a challenge. So...I think it is best to not try & match seems or arrange anything . 31. Hi Bonnie- I will trade you a set of irons for a copy of Scraps and Shirt Tails II to replace the one I shared and never got returned to me.... All you need to do is make sure you have room in Shamu when you come to Beaver PA. The guild won't allow non members to take the class, but I would be glad to meet you to give you a set. I have three that I've saved from trashed cabinets. No vintage machine yet though.

    1. Just kidding about the trade, BTW. I will probably have replaced it long before your trip to PA. I'm hoping to get to take your class in Bedford, since I can't take the one in Beaver.

  34. Bonnie giving up sugar and bread is hard but you can do it. Just take it one day at a time. I started my journey on Oct 1, 2012. I am down 30 pounds a feel great. My insides feel good. I am a Southern girl and loved sweeeeeet tea (YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN). Now I drink teas with no sugar a different taste. I would not go back for any reason. Some days will be easier than others on your journey but it's all about you and what you want to do. Everyone will have an opinion but this is your world so rock it.

  36. Hi Bonnie! I'm quilting again, blogging, and reading blogs. Hooray!

    In case you really don't know . . .

In the early Roman calendar February had 30 days. Caesar Augustus didn't want his month to have only 30 days, so he stole a day from February to make August 31 days. The other February day was stolen by another caesar - maybe Julius? - which would have been added to July. Since we use the Roman calendar, the changes stuck to this day.

    1. Oh - the 29th day was added to February every 4 years because astronomers discovered the earth took a bit longer than 24 hours to revolve around the sun. I don't know what year this was. So the more time went by the more the calendar didn't match the sun. The extra day was added once every fourth year to bring the sun and the calendar back into sinc.
