Dec 2 Quilt-Cam Afternoon!

I'm going to hang around an hour or so. Want to join me? Grab a project and come sew!

I hate being late for ANYTHING!  I am one of the most punctual people you will ever meet -- but I came upon a fabric emergency!

I ran out of the yellow I needed!

I hit THREE stores this morning searching for the right elusive yellow ----NO DICE!

And then...in front of me...as I'm driving down the street --- THIS:

Come Back Here!  I need you!!

I did find a very CLOSE yellow that will do the job...this fabric will be separated by a sashing -- so it should be fine..can you tell the difference?

I didn't think so!  The small piece was my leftover -- the new yardage should see me through!

SO here I am racing like a crazy woman to get back for Quilt-Cam and I look down to see my car running on fumes!

I pull into the gas station at Sam's Club -- and my CARD doesn't work in the gas pump!  It says "membership not recognized!"  HA!

And by this time I'm running later and later and later ----

I feel the need for some mindless sewing today --- how about a bit of string piecing by treadle?  I am all set up and ready to go!

You can leave a comment in the comment section below, or leave one in the guest book by clicking the blue guest book button in the left hand side bar, While I can't answer them all ---I do pick randomly and try to answer questions as I sew!

    1. Where are you at in Norway? I have friends in Tverstad, or near there..not sure I am spelling that right. I have been there once and visited them in Songdal and went all the way to Solvorn where my great grandfather grew up and I met my family there. So glad Bonnie's fans reach all the way to Norway (and beyond!)

  7. Ah-h-h. Hubby is fed and watching football (through his eyelids!) I have a cup of tea and my hexie project to work on. I am ready for quilt cam!! I’ve been following along with Easy Street and would work on the flying geese for that, but the computer is in another room. So I’ll play with my hexies. They are ½” per side and I’m using Christmas fabrics.

  18. Hi Bonnie,
Am handquilting today while joining you on quiltcam. Because my quilting room gets turned into a guest room at Thanksgiving, this is the first day we've had to turn it back into a quilting room, so first time in 2 weeks I've had to hand quilt. Have been busy this past week in the sewing room working on Easy Street and Smith Mountain Morning! Almost finished with the piecing on SMM!!!

I was looking round the shops today and thought I'd have a look in the Charity shop to see if there were any nice cottons and I came across a beautiful hand-cranked Singer in a little wooden case! It even had 2 packs of spare needles and extra bobbins for a shuttle bobbin. The best bit? It was £7.50 and in perfect working order. My question is, where can I find out more about old Singers? Thank you so much Bonnie, without you speaking so lovingly about your own lovlies, I wouldn't even have thought about buying it. I'm in seventh heaven!

  53. QUESTION!!! what can you do with the card boards from JoAnn fat quarters?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous3:37 PM EST

If you do any fussy cutting, you could use the cardboard to cut little 'windows' to see what you'll be cutting. The inside of the window is the finished size of the square, and the outside is the seam allowance. You can see some examples of what I'm talking about here: https://amidthismoment.wordpress.com/2012/07/14/polaroid-block-swap/

    3. I hear Bonnie mention your question during Quilt Cam and I had been cutting out the pieces for several Christmas Mug Rugs while watching. I can't sew and watch Bonnie at the same time so I usually cut out spools or something for my leader/ender that uses multiple small pieces. I used the card boards from JoAnn fat quarters for separating the individual mugs & put rubber bands around them.

Hey, Bonnie. When you're using shirts, is it a big deal if some of them are cotton blends instead of 100% cotton? I have a couple of blends that were gifted to me, and I don't know if they will cause trouble if I use them in a quilt that's mostly 100% cotton shirts.

  65. Bonnie, I certainly empathize with you about the bundle thing. I don't care for bundles either; for me, fat quarters is about as small as I go -- occasionally fat eighths, but no strips or squares. I find cutting my own is a very soothing activity, and as it's seen me through some very stressful times in my life, I wouldn't trade the opportunity to cut fabric for all the 'convenience' in the world. :-)
