Help Get The Word Out–Another Stolen Quilt!

Everyone, I need your help.

I just got word from a friend that fellow scrap quilter, Sally Schneider, has had a quilt stolen.

You’ve helped before getting the word out to your blog, your email lists, your facebook pages, your online message boards. Can you please link your blog to my post, send the link along to your email lists and quilty friends, post my link on your facebook pages? We need to get the word out on this one!

Here is the news I received:

Please be on the lookout for Sally Schneider’s “Farmer’s Daughter” quilt. It was last seen on January 26, 2012 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was being shipped to Martingale & Company, home of That Patchwork Place. It was to be included in her book that will be published in January 2013.

This quilt is 95″ by 95″. It combines the scrappy look with cream. The background is Moda Grunge. This quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted.

If you find this quilt, please contact Sally immediately at sally@sallyschneider.com.

I was just IN Albuquerque this past fall. Such a beautiful place, and I hate to think of anyone who would DARE steal a quilt from a traveling quilt teacher/lecturer! It just makes my blood boil, and my heart break for Sally.

This is what Sally had to say via her facebook page:

Bad news today -- one of my quilts was stolen from it's bin -- Farmer's Daughter, a queen-size quilt is missing. Looks like my ta-done list is back to a ta-do list -- I'll need to make a new one. I'm so sad that someone would steal a quilt.

This is all the info I currently have, but if I find out anything more I'll let you know.

Please help us out by sending this post link and info wherever you can!

Sadly yours ---

  4. Don't people know it's more fun to make your own quilt than steal someone elses? Some really can get pretty low.

I have never heard of such a thing. We always sew and give, but in her case, she was not planning on giving it away. How can someone feel good when they curl up in that lovely quilt, knowing it is stolen. terriable thing. My heart goes out to Sally.

  14. The problem is whoever stole the quilt dose not know what has gone into making it and has no respect. So sad I hope it is returned quickly.

  17. Thanks Bonnie and everyone else. This was my favorite quilt from the whole book, and I'm really sad to lose it. My only hope is that the person who took it REALLY needs it to keep warm.

  21. Such a terrible thing! This would drive me just crazy (I've had my house and car broken into before and I can't stand it). I wonder if we should sew in a gps chip into our quilts. Call it the Quilt-Track! I watched the vet insert my kitty with her micro chip and it was nothing. I'm highly considering it!

  22. Cathy, that's quite a good idea actually! Would they hold up to washing though? But wouldn't the thief be surprised when the knock at the door was the quilt police!

  23. Who was responsible for the bin? I'd look at the shipping company first. Hopefully she bought insurance to cover the costs of the replacement, too. I've lost items put into the U.S. mail. There are thieves everywhere. I most certainly will link to this blog. Hopefully someone will know where it's gone.
    Hugs!

  24. How awful! I know exactly how she feels. I had made two beautiful Christmas tree skirts for our church fair in 2010. They were in the Fireside Room of our parrish hall along with all the other handmade items for sale. While we were all in the church for our service someone came into the hall and stole those two tree skirts and some antique jewelry. Can you imagine stealing from a church during their services? So nothing surprises me anymore...there are thieves everywhere...even in our churches. I sure hope your friend gets her quilt back.

  25. My heart aches for her. I had a quilt stolen once that I had mailed to my brother in law, and it was horrible. The distress was made all the worse because we just KNEW who had to have done it but couldn't do anything about it. The worst thing was the insurance only reimbursed for materials and longarm quilting costs - nothing for my hours spent piecing it. Then, because the apartment manager signed for the box (when it should have been only the recipient allowed to sign) the post office demanded the money from the insurance claim be returned because the package had reached its destination, no matter than it disappeared after it got there because they didn't provide due diligence to assure it got into the right hands. Shipping anything of value is fraught with problems, but when it's a quilt you've spent so much time on.... how dreadful.

people will steal anything for money. No moral character!! I sympathize and send my wish that it is located.

Is that an actual photo of the stolen quilt? Just asking for clarification because it doesn't look like a "Farmer's Daughter" quilt, which as I understand it, is a sampler style quilt usually done in reproduction fabrics. It would be too bad if we were all publicizing the wrong stolen quilt!

  28. So sad....I posted it on my FB....cannot believe that someone would do that. sad the integrity of some people...will also put on Quilt for us.

  29. To anonymous -- the block pattern is a traditional block called Farmer's Daughter, it has nothing to do with the lovely "Farmer's Daughter" sampler quilt. Sorry for the confusion. And yes, that is the actual quilt.
