Book Description:

Test Pilot’s Daughter: Revenge is the first title in a series featuring a gutsy female genius who fights injustice in a fast paced thriller. Molesters and pedophiles be warned, don’t mess with Christina Matthews!

Review from the Editor’s Desk of Harper Collins: Test Pilot’s Daughter is exciting, original and a real page-turner. It is extremely well plotted. The author’s familiarity with flying lends his action real veracity and texture.

Ranked number 1 out of 8,000 books on Harper Collins’ Authonomy website November, 2009.

Romance, adventure, murder and revenge, Christina Matthews does it all. An obsessed fly-girl with the Right Stuff and True Grit finds love in the oddest place, the cockpit. A beautiful and brainy college girl born with jet-fuel in her blood is haunted by a gripping family tragedy and the violent murder of her best friend. The only thing she truly fears is sleep. Tortured by nightmares, this test pilot’s daughter has to find a way to save her sanity or die. Mike Clark, call-name Lazer and a real Top Gun, looks to be the best kind of therapy.

With dreams of becoming an Astronaut-Commander, Christina struggles through heart-stopping perils in the cockpit and crash-lands on a deserted island. Without hope for rescue, she concocts an oddball plan to return survivors to civilization.

Risking her future at NASA, Christina delivers on a promise to a dying friend and faces her evil nemesis in the sky. Only by overcoming deep-seated fears can she exorcise her ghosts and pursue a lifelong dream of flying in space.

Will true love conquer Christina’s curse, or will she auger in?

This is what’s going on over here! My body clock is still on California time. Therefore, when everyone else went to bed at 10pm, my mind said…it’s only 7pm! Get Sewing!

birthday 002

Bernina is still sick and won’t be ready til maybe next week, so Magenta FW is busy keeping me busy! I’m working on the units for the Midnight Flight quilt, the last block I had in the 100 blocks by 100 designers vol 4 by Quiltmaker. PIeces all kitted up…just sit and sew and sew and sew! I love how this little baby hums!

And what’s that panda thing you see?

birthday 003

It’s the cute external speaker for my toshiba tablet! I keep this set up next to where I’m sewing and watch chicky flicky netflix to my heart’s content as I mindlessly feed pieces through the machine until the wee small hours!

Hopefully tonight there will be some more of this going on!

Quilting Globally!

This is what the internet has done.

We are GLOBAL!

And if I stop to think about it ----what this internet thing has done ---- I am SO amazed, and SO grateful!

It blew my world wide open in ways that I would never have been able to dream, and I’m sure it’s the same for you if you are thinking about it.

I mean, really. For one thing --- here you are, wherever you are reading this --- from the comfort of your home, your office, your phone ---HOPEFULLY not while you are driving!

I remember when we first got the internet that I wasn’t even REMOTELY interested. DH had signed up on Compuserve or something when we lived in Payette, Idaho and he was a student at Boise State. He was enthralled – I was not.

A few years later when we had moved to Burley, Idaho –I was visiting him at his office and he said, “You know, we really should get the internet at home.” And I could not understand why…WHY!??

He said “There is quilting stuff on there --- look!” And he pulled up a search engine and started pointing things out to me, and that was that. Within a week we were hooked up to a local server and I had joined my first quilter’s email list. And there were people on there from Germany, France, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, and all over the United States and Canada and everywhere in between.

And I was addicted!! We did things like IRC chat, downloaded pdf patterns for FREE –OhMyGoodness!

And then someone arranged our first get-together ----and my family thought I was nuts running off to California or to Salt Lake to meet up with women that I didn’t know ---except…I *DID* know them. In all the ways that mattered. Because it wasn’t about age or race or economic status. It wasn’t about looks or height or weight. It wasn't about religious background or political standing. When you communicate from the heart with words that others understand, it goes deeper than that.

Occasionally there are times when I see connections like this blossoming with other groups, and I am invited in to join them! Sunday I had such an experience where people I knew, who had come to see me in other countries, all gathered in California to attend the Road to California show – and they were there when I was there and we got together and sewed!

So-Cal_2012 260

Kim and Julie were there! I’ve emailed back and forth with Kim over the years, she is from my birth-place --- the wilds of Minneapolis! And Julie was there! Julie came all the way from Australia to spend time with her “Dear Jane” friends who were all coming to the quilt show!

So-Cal_2012 262

Caroline was there! And bless her ((And bless me too!)) she brought me a huge bag of Belgian chocolates…oh my! I’ve emailed with Caroline over the years ---I first met her in person when I went to Paris, and she came again to see me when I was in Germany last year. Friends do that --- travel miles for any chance to be together. And here she was in California, hanging out with the Dear Jane girls, ready to go to the quilt show!

So-Cal_2012 265

Kay was there! Oh, I love Kay! She is such a kick! She took three of my classes at Road to California last year, and brought them ALL to show me how she finished each one! She turns 90 this year. There is no stopping this dynamo! She has given me the buzz phrase that I use OFTEN --- “This is so fun you could just SEW your BRAINS OUT!” Love you Kay!

So-Cal_2012 267

Sherry was there! I’d emailed with Sherry before, but she really became an instant friend when she so willingly gave up her time ((And her Jeep!)) to run back to the hotel in between class sessions at the show last year to go get the bags of quilts and get them to the convention center for my lecture. And took me to In n Out Burger not once, but twice! Sherry was also my hostess while staying with the Friendship Square guild this week….She came on our August cruise --- I’m so happy that she has become more than a quilter, but a friend! Love you girl!

So-Cal_2012 269

Birgitte!! What a fabulous woman she is! I first “met” her through the Dear Jane list – which I joined back around 1997 or so? We emailed back and forth over the years, and she came to take all three classes with me in Stuttgart last year. I have to admire women who are crazy enough to start 3 UFOs over one weekend..LOL. And here she was, so far from home, in Southern California. So fun to see you again! Your smile just warms my heart!

So-Cal_2012 275

I made some new friends too!

So-Cal_2012 276

We all spent the day “Sewing Our Brains Out” as Kay says….working on our My Blue Heaven Blocks!

There were a couple people who I missed getting photos of – but they are in the large photo at the top of this post! Special thanks to Florine for pulling this day together, and a hello to Carolyn who joined us from Maine – who also came to see me when I was in Germany. And Deborah who joined us from Illinois and celebrated HER 50th birthday with US! ((I figure if she can make it through that day, so can I!)) Boy, do these girls get around!

Julie, Brigitte and Caroline also got to spend the day in San Francisco with my friend Randy who toured them around for the day before they made their way south toward Orange County. Quilting connections. We just come together! The thread that binds!

And those who were not able to attend were not forgotten – I had the privilege of talking to Valerie in France and saying hello as we passed the phone around the table letting her know she was missed!

Of course I’m stinky-green-jealous because they are all at the SHOW today!

So how do I loop this back to where this post started? Would this have been possible at all --- all these people and places and common threads and interests coming together from different remote places of this globe WITHOUT the internet? I doubt it! And my life is so blessed by it!

Even---if I had to miss the show. :c)

That Featherweight Extension Table….

So many had asked who the supplier was for the  Featherweight extension table I showed on Yesterday's Post, and I honestly couldn’t remember what I was told.

I did get a comment this morning that included the link, and so I clicked it to find out more information.

It seems that table comes in different sizes, so you can choose which one best fits your needs.

The 12” X 16” one, perfect for quilting-on-the-go, is on sale for $69.00, so that’s a 30% savings over the regular $99.00 price.

I found this on SewforLess.com and the direct link to the extension table is HERE.

I think the black table with the gold decals looks SO COOL!  I’ve already got a clear acrylic table for my Featherweight that I’ve had for several years…so I don’t know if I”ll spring for one of these, but I’m sorely tempted!

Valentine's Day is just right around the corner, so stop dropping your hints NOW! LOL!

No affiliation, but just passing on the info to those who were looking for it ---

Back to my long list of to-do’s for today!

Birthday Surprises!

I made it home from California last night!  It was 11pm by the time I was home and in bed…and that bed never felt so good!

I didn’t even bother to unpack the suitcases ----they are still there waiting for me to do that today, but first things first!

I was gone 10 days….and this morning I walked into the dining room to find a HUGE stack of mail…and BOXES!!

Of course I went for the biggest one first!  On my goodness!  There is something “squishy” in here!  And a letter at the top….I try to be patient, and read the letter first…..here’s an excerpt:
Dear Bonnie,
I have made a large number of quilts and given them to everyone in my family and to friends.  None of them would appreciate this particular quilt as much as you would.  I am sure you recognize it as a 1930’s era quilt.  The only information I have about it is that we found it (with others) in a closet at my mother-in-law’s house after she passed away and we were cleaning out her things. My husband tells me that his mother had friends from the church in to help sew and quilt at her home, and he remembers hiding under the quilting frame as they sewed.
I am at the point in my life when I need to find new homes for some things I have treasured.  I realize you must have a large number of quilts in your collection and I hope you think this one is worth keeping, at least until you have to decide where your quilts will go when that time comes for you.
((Insert note from me…….she says this as I am turning 50 on Monday, and feeling that time already closer now that I am OVER the HILL!?? LOLOL!!! I love her sense of timing!!))
Bonnie, I know you will accept this gift in the spirit it is given.  I am fortunate that I met you when you still lived in Waxahachie TX and you quilted several quilts for me, two over a weekend while I went to a dog show!  Keep on doing what you are doing, live life to the fullest, and keep on quilting!

Here’s a closer up of the corner of this quilt ---I think this is a “birds in the air” variation, and I just love the softness of the 30’s fabrics and the muslin ----and what a great inner border!

Mary Ann, I can’t thank you enough for your generosity!  This may turn out to be the best birthday yet! 50 can be MORE than nifty!  At least I’m going to MAKE it so!

And that wasn’t all….I can’t believe how generous quilters are as a whole!

So-Cal_2012 343

The River City Quilt Guild sent a box with lots of wonderful teas, scraps and more!

So-Cal_2012 344  So-Cal_2012 345

I removed the teas, found strips, and bags of scraps and…..even….

So-Cal_2012 346

A couple of gorgeous 100% cotton shirts to add to my shirt fabric collection!  Thank you thank you!!

So-Cal_2012 347

These strips are going to find a happy home in amongst all my other strips!  Can’t wait to start sewing with them!

So-Cal_2012 348

“Auntie Em” sent along a box of bonus triangles for my crumb bins, a fabric business card holder that she made, and a roll of batting seam tape!  I guess she is tired of me taking the time to zig zag that batting and wants me to give this a try..LOL!  Okay! I’ll try it --- Thank you Emily!!

So-Cal_2012 349

When I was at Sandi D’s in San Diego, she was showing me how her Bloc-Loc rulers worked for trimming units down…..and here is one in my mail!  The funny thing is, it didn't come from Sandi, but from from Tracy!

She says:
Hi Bonnie,
I hope this package gets to you.. I wasn't sure if this was your home address or a busniess.  I feel a bit like a stalker --- sorry!!
((LOL! This cracked me up!))
I just wanted to thank you for brightening my days and stretching my creativity, but mostly for helping me find ways to reduce my stash.  I just finished Orcas Bay today.  I am going to quilt it after Road 2 California.  I had a lot of fun sewing with the quiltvillechat group, and I am proud to say I kept up with each step.
I've enclosed a ruler that I use to help square up half square triangles and quarter square triangles.  I really found it to be a great help.
Tracy

Tracy --- Thank you so much!  If you haven't used this ruler before, the little carved out groove in the back of the ruler locks onto your seam allowance where you have pressed to the dark side, and makes trimming easy! I’m anxious to give this a try too…..

I’ve got so much to catch up on at home it isn’t even funny.  I’ll get a load of laundry going in a minute, and start working on the to-do list that is about as long as both of my arms.  I’m taking it kind of slow – I’ve picked up a bit of a cold over the past week, and I do not want this to settle into bronchitis, so I’m babying it along!

The one thing I wish for?  Time to SEW!!  I’m going to crank through the chores and see if I can carve myself out some time ---

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Sister’s Choice in La Habra!

I am going to miss sights like this greeting me every time I walk outside and look UP!

Palm trees have always been a favorite, and I love all the different varieties you can find in California.  Another thing I love and have fond memories of? Eucalyptus trees!  I love how they smell, especially after a rain.

I remember walking the beaches at Santa Cruz when I was young.and collecting the little seed pods – filling my pockets. I’m sure mom hated to find them in the laundry….SURPRISE!!!

But they were nothing compared to the time I put a salamander in my purse and then left it in my closet…for weeks…LOL!

We gathered to quilt --- hosted by the Friendship Square quilters ----and welcomed those who had come from surrounding areas to join in too.

Not all workshops need to be “killer quilt” status.  Sometimes a traditional block with time honored appeal can be the catalyst to get us to dig into scraps, play with colors, swap strips with others, and just simply enjoy a day sewing, laughing, chatting, and getting to know one another.  This was THAT kind of class.

We had several ladies sewing blocks with the intention of putting them in donation quilts, either for Quilts of Valor, or other local philanthropic efforts.  I love this!  It just touches my heart so much.  To sew and sew and sew so we can give is such a wonderful thing.

The day was sunny, but cool --- and we gathered outside seating ourselves around picnic tables to enjoy our lunch with the sun on our shoulders.

Something I decided that I need:

socal_jan_2012 351

A featherweight extension bed---with decals!  This one is featherweight black! Isn’t this cool?  Ummmm..do you think they have one in  magenta metallic with ghost flames to match MY Magenta Metallic featherweight!?

It’s also really neat to see ladies who take designs off into their own direction..look at what Carolyn did with her bonus triangles from the block corners:

socal_jan_2012 352

Whoooo baby! These are tiny!!

socal_jan_2012 369

THIS is how they are going to look with her red sashing…WOW!!  And this is for a Quilt of Valor!
Take a peek at the other ladies and what they accomplished in class!
This morning I’m on my way home ----please send quilty warm wishes for safe flights and safer baggage handling!!

Catch you from NC!
