Kindle, Oh Kindle!!!

I just returned from the gym, and look what is rubber banded to my mailbox!! MY KINDLE from Amazon!!

I've heard so many neat things about this gadget...talked to one of the gals in Oregon who ordered one, and sat next to a guy in the San Francisco airport on my way home from Oregon, and he was kind enough to give me the whole INFOMERCIAL on how much he loves this thing. It was too cute. I've never seen a guy so obsessed with any object!

Come to think of it, yes I have, but that's a story for another day..*LOL*

Anyway...with the traveling I do, books are big and heavy and this seems like just the ticket. And I'm a gadget girl myself, geeky one that I am, so this tickles me.

I can hardly wait to get it out of the box!

The first book I'm putting on it? The Fountainhead By Ayn Rand...a must have read.

I was surprised to find out I could get a Kindle app on my new iPhone (significantly smaller screen, obviously)-- I think it'll be great for traveling. Enjoy your new toy -- you've earned it!

My son is one of those addicted to his Kindle (and his iPhone and his MacbookPro and ...). I sometimes think it would be cool to have one but I just don't read enough to justify it - I am usually doing hand-sewing instead!

Just what the gal-on-the-go needs!

You are going to LOVE it! I have only had mine for 3 weeks. I have read more the past 3 weeks than I have the past 3 years.

Enjoy!

Seriously? Do you take your camera to the mailbox? :) Enjoy your Kinddie!

I'll admit that I'm jealous. :)

At first, I wasn't sure if I'd like the idea of reading a book on the screen (there's just something wonderful about holding a real book), but I've warmed to the idea.

I especially love the idea of being able to have jillions of "books" in my purse at one time.

I'm told that some libraries even have loaner "book" downloads for kindle. How cool is that?

And the public domain books are free downloads.

OW! how I miss those "smiling boxes"! I'm a nerd, and they don't send Kindle to Mexico, probably because there is not enough wireless network to support it...

Congrats on your purchase!

I love love love mine. It is so easy to use and handy when waiting or traveling. Just pull it out and read. Don't leave the WIRELESS ON unless you need it, the battery goes down faster when it is on. You don't need it on to read. Enjoy!

I loooves my Kindle, so convient! I carry it everywhere with me. Be sure to check out www.kindleboards.com too, they have some great threads for free or bargain books and there are also a lot of authors that hang out there and you can get some of their books for under $3! I truly enjoyed reading Baling, Nine Lives of Clemenza, and Waiting for Spring. You can get a good book called “Soul Identity” for just a penny too! This book will be made into a movie at some point in the future (they are working on the deal now). Just a few suggestions from one Kindle owner to another. If you check out the boards, I am Athenagwis over there!

Cheers!
Rachel

Enjoy your new toy. You'll have to update us on how you like using it after you've had a chance to play with it.

Oh yes, Bonnie, you will love it. Our kids got my husband and I one for Christmas because we will be living in the Netherlands for 4 months this fall (we leave in 25 days!!) Now we won't have to ask friends and family who visit us to bring along books to keep us happy. It's great for those of us who like to travel, but to travel light. I would recommend buying the leather cover because the screen is very sensitive to klutzes like me who drop things (don't ask how I know.) Check out all the free books, mainly classics, that are available. The entire 'Cook's Illustrated' is free.

I'm so glad you got a Kindle. I've had one for a long time now, and I wouldn't be without it. It's the best thing since sliced bread! Tip: Don't leave the Whispernet turned on though, it drains the battery a lot. Some Kindle owners buy new leather covers. I haven't succumbed to that yet. I've made a few myself instead, but if you want a beautiful new leather cover. Check out Oberon.com Have fun with your new toy! It really is one of the best inventions down the pike in a long, long time.

I LOVE my Kindle!!! I received it for Mother's Day and have read 9 books so far on my Kindle. I have some paper books I've been reading too. Anyway, I made a Kindle Keeper called the Bookkeeper and you can find it on Moda Bake Shop in the month of May, if you're interested.

That is one of the best feelings, getting a package in the mail that you've ordered.
I've taken to listening to books on my ipod while I work to keep from getting bored.
Do the kindle books cost much? I'm cheap...I just go to the library!

Make sure you take advantage of the free book offers. There are quite a few communities out there that will give you a heads up on when they are being offered!

I love my kindle, but I have too dang many paperbacks I gotta get through first.

I noticed in your picture with the Kindle you have Nelson Demille's "The Gate House" on your shelf (at least I'm assuming its your shelf). If you haven't already read it, I definitely recommend "Charm School" by Demille. Its probably one of his best books.

PS - hope you enjoy the Kindle!

Oh lucky you, I saw a show where Oprah was raving them...but unfortuneately you can't buy them out of the States. I think they are brilliant!!

I have had the Kindle since Feb. I love it and especially like it when I travel.
BTW there is an MP3 player in the Kindle 2, it has a speaker in the back of the Kindle or you can buy a cord and plug it in to your auto to listen to books on tape etc.

Yes, Bonnie, you will love your Kindle. I just returned from a business trip to Korea, and instead of filling my carry-on luggage with books, I just had my Kindle. It's wonderful for traveling.

(I asked a TSA agent at one of the airports if I should take it out and put it in a bin, like I do with my laptop, and he said it was a good idea. If it saves you from having your carry-on inspected, it's a small price to pay.)

Enjoy!

Bonnie, I got my this past Christmas...it is BY FAR the best gift i have ever gotten. I have read over 60 books since then. I love the feature of being able to change the font size, and also all the free books available. The only drawback is, it cuts into my sewing time!

Every Christmas I purchase myself a gift that I normally would NEVER buy but really, really WANT. I then wrap the gift and put it under the tree until Christmas day. The Kindle reader is on the top of the list for this year.

Please, please keep us informed if you enjoy reading via this medium.
